Comprehensive research on couple therapy in Turkey was designed by Dr. Selenga Gürmen for the first time and supported by Tübitak with a fund worth 360,000₺.
Although the effects of couple therapy on individual symptoms and relationship satisfaction are known, the number of studies examining the change processes in couple therapy and the factors that predict this change are very few.
To fill this gap, Dr. Selenga Gürmen and her team will investigate the effectiveness of couple therapy in increasing individual symptoms and relationship satisfaction and the context and mechanisms that cause change in therapy, with qualitative and quantitative data collected for 24 months from 100 couples who come to couple therapy.
There are two main research questions in the current project:
1) Does couple therapy work?
2) How does couple therapy work?
In addition to survey data on individual and relational well-being that are being collected regularly from clients, change interviews are held every four sessions, and clients and therapists are asked to evaluate the change they experience in the process.
The study investigates whether couple therapy works as an effective outcome and examines the important events and changes in the process.
The information obtained from the current project will contribute to the literature of the world and our country by investigating the effectiveness of the couple therapy in Turkey. It will allow couples who have difficulties in their relationships and marriages to benefit from couple therapy in the best way.
