What is Systemic Therapy?
What is Systemic Therapy?
Systemic therapy is a psychotherapy approach that focuses specifically on family relationships and dynamics. In this therapy, we address the problems experienced by the individual not only in the personal context but in terms of relationships and interactions within the family. In systemic therapy, we try to understand the relationships of family members with each other and the effects of these relationships on the individual's problems by examining factors such as communication, roles, and behavioral models between family members.
In this type of therapy, we examine family members' interactions and how these interactions lead to problematic behavior or emotional distress. As therapists, we evaluate how family members respond to each other, how roles and expectations are shaped, and how family dynamics contribute to maintaining or resolving problems.
When applying systemic therapy, we can help family members understand each other and their relationships within the family in a healthier way and improve these relationships. During therapy, we improve communication between family members, resolve misunderstandings, and develop more supportive and functional family relationships. We help family members develop more empathy and understanding towards each other, resolve conflicts within the family more effectively, and create a more substantial unity as a family.
Therapists must have completed relevant training and be licensed to practice this therapy. Systemic therapy can be practiced by psychotherapists, counselors, and social workers who specialize in family therapy, couples therapy, and other relationship-based therapies. These therapists must have extensive training and experience in family dynamics, communication skills, and therapy techniques.
In general, systemic therapy helps to achieve a deeper understanding and resolution of problems within the family and can contribute to strengthening relationships between family members.
