Family Therapy
Family therapy supports families experiencing relational problems and improves their relationships and emotional bonds.
What is family therapy?
Family therapy is used to understand, develop, and improve the relationships and dynamics between family members. Family therapy aims to improve communication and relationships within the family.
Family members discuss their problems during therapy and work together to reach solutions. Family therapy aims to resolve conflicts by strengthening the bond between family members and helping family members understand and support each other's needs.
Family therapy often requires the participation of family members. During therapy, the therapist can evaluate family members' relationships and communication styles and allow them to talk freely to understand everyone's needs. The therapist may teach family members techniques to help them communicate more effectively and help family members get along better with each other.
Family therapy can be applied for many different reasons. Some families may seek family therapy for issues such as marital problems, child-rearing problems, and extended family problems. Other families may seek family therapy because they want to communicate better in general and have a closer relationship with each other.
How is family therapy done?
During the family therapy process, the therapist works with family members to understand the relationships and communication styles between family members.
The therapist evaluates how family members interact with each other and what problems they face.
Next, the therapist works with all family members to create plans to resolve the problems. Family members can be invited to the session in different combinations: child/adolescent-mother, child/adolescent-father, mother-father, siblings, all together, etc.
